VOLUNTEERS

Buckeye Furnace has been very fortunate with people and groups volunteering assistance on many levels and for many projects. However, this does not mean that we aren't always looking for more volunteers. So if you have the urge to be a part of our historic experience, call or visit the Furnace and we will discuss what areas of interest in which you wish to be involved.

The Jackson Historical Society Members volunteer and assist on the projects that go on at the furnace. It is fortunate that the members of the Jackson Historical Society and the Friends of Buckeye Furnace see the historical importance and potential of the site to the area.

Picture 8.jpg The local 4-H club, the Bloomfield Allstars, and their advisors Kris Sexton and Kerry Willis scraped and painted the stanchions for all the signage in the park and have helped with the fall festival. This group is a very public service oriented organization.

2009_1101demolition0172.JPG The Boy Scouts, Troop 48 of Jackson, Ohio and their leaders help with the parking at the fall festival. Also one of the Scouts , William Newell , is taking on the clearing, mapping and marking of the hiking trails as his Eagle Scout project. When it comes to community service projects the Boy Scouts are always prepared.

The Site also has many individual volunteers. Kat Baker,Nancy Morris, Amanda Spradlin, Vickie Coy, Carl Coy, Jerome Hundley, Nicole Russell all donate freely of their time and energy to any project being undertaken. These people are always ready to work.

2009_1213demolition0039.JPG Some of Buckeye Furnace's biggest supporters Pat Hill, Mike Hill and Pat's grandson Noah voluntarily come out with wagons and teams of horses and provide wagon rides for the Fall Festival, at Christmas time, and for no reason at all. It is always a fun day when the Hills come a-visiting.

DSCF0738.JPG The Ohio State Historical Society, owners of the Buckeye Furnace complex, have been working at Buckeye Furnace for the past year. The company store has been repainted, the shutters repaired, the ore scales have been rebuilt, porch floors replaced on the Iron Master's house and painting done there as well. A gate was installed to limit the vehicle traffic to the top of the hill. This summer there is to be work done on the engine house and the casting house, along with the roof to be rebuilt over the scale shed. Signage is to be replaced on all the information stanchions. The folks from the Ohio Historical society are a dedicated group and we are thankful for all who have helped. A special Thank You to Steve Henthorn, Mike Beam and Stan Wallace, you guys are #1.
